Individual Car Insurance

Individual car insurance can be very hard to understand especially if you are not in the insurance business or new to driving and the insurance world. One of the reasons many of the policies look so different is because the auto insurance is not federally regulated. A great example of this is in many states a driver needs proof of individual car insurance to be able to drive that vehicle. In some states a vehicle cannot be registered until the vehicle has insurance and proof is brought to the Department of Motor Vehicles when registering the vehicle.
A great tip before getting individual car insurance is to make sure you know what state you will be living in and then know the laws. It makes no sense to take out insurance in one state to move to another state in a couple of weeks. The laws are different in each state so do the research and this can save you a lot of time and money.

Buying individual car insurance took more time years ago than it does in this day and age. Years ago you would have to find the insurance company and then get the phonebook and look up the number. After you had your “call list” together you would have to call each company separately and get their quotes. This was hardly ever completed on the first call. Many times the insurer would take you name and number then run the figures and give you a call within a week most times. No wall one has to do is get online and search for the best price. Many sites or companies will do comparison-shopping and give you the best rate with the company name. One of the companies that have commercials on television all the time is Progressive. Even if they are not the cheapest they will give you the name of the company.

Individual car insurance shopping still takes some time and effort and with research and learning a few of the basic terms you will be well on your way to saving money and having individual car insurance.

The most important thing to keep in mind is the reason why you have individual car insurance. This is in case you have an accident you are protecting your assets. If you have a “at fault” accident (meaning the accident was your fault) and you do not have individual car insurance you will be held responsible for the other party’s expenses. These expenses can and will include damage to the other vehicle and medical expenses if the other party is injured.

When choosing individual car insurance it is important to note that there are different types. Two of the different types are collision and liability. These days it is near impossible not to have an accident at some point in your driving life. There are so many cars around us and that is not considering the amount of “not so good” drivers out there. There are also inexperienced drivers such as teenagers just starting out.

Most states have some kind of statute or law that mandates all drivers have some sort of minimal individual car insurance.
Liability insurance pretty much guarantees that if you the driver have an accident and someone is injured the insurance will cover it.  Body injury liability cover the injured if that require medical care, lost wages and any type of rehabilitation services that are needed.

Property damage liability is a pretty easy one to figure out. This covers if you do damage to someone property. This can be a fence, fencepost, mailbox or a standing structure.

Uninsured motorist coverage is something to make sure that is on the policy when looking to purchase an individual car insurance policy. There are way too many people driving around out there without car insurance and if something happens and there is an accident and they are at fault you want to have some type of coverage.

Collision insurance is the type of insurance that will pay for the damage to your car. Of course one needs to realize the amount of damages would be paid on the market value of your car. This type of insurance will also cover you if you hit a telephone pole, a parked car or other nonmoving object.

When choosing individual car insurance the best things to do is shop around and see what you can get for the best price. There are many factors when insurance companies give you the price for the insurance policy. One is the type and make of your care. If you vehicle is a four-wheel drive then you will pay more. If you have a sports care and a turbo engine then that too will raise the price. For those that have already existing traffic tickets that will make the price rise. If your vehicle is red it has been proven that these colored vehicles get more parking tickets. Also, CAA Magazine states the color of your vehicle reflects your personality so those with red slow down!
